Abraham Fund to Knesset Committee on Constitution, Law and Justice: Reconsider new law about admissions committees in communal villages
February,10 2010

The Abraham Fund, which promotes integration and equality between Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel, called today upon the members of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee at the Knesset to reconsider the approval of the bill on its desk. This law permits admission committees of communal villages to reject the candidacies of those who do not identify with basic views that are defined by settlement policies.

Mohammad Darawshe, Co-director of the organization, said at the discussion that this proposal implies the legitimacy of exclusively Jewish communities, which contradicts both the principle of integration and equality among all citizens as well as the principle of democracy. He added that the state should strive to find a way to integrate between Jews and Arabs instead of preserving and enhancing the existing separation in many fields, such as the education system and residential areas, to name just two.
